Participants of CIMCA 2015 arrived to Alcobaça

Opening Ceremony and Draw of Eliminatory Rounds took place at Cine-Teatro de Alcobaça – João d’Oliva Monteiro

The Cine-Teatro de Alcobaça – João d’Oliva Monteiro welcomed yesterday, March 22nd, the Opening Ceremony and Draw of the Eliminatory Rounds of the 4th International Chamber Music Competition “Cidade de Alcobaça” (CIMCA), an event where all ensembles participated, during a day that was also marked by the Check-In (in the afternoon) of the several musicians present in the contest.

Among the ceremony speakers, we had the Artistic Director and President of the Jury, António Rosa, one of the main drivers of the project, the President of Alcobaça Band and Executive Director of Alcobaça Music Academy, Rui Morais, and João Ribeiro, the English translator at service and Technical Director.

Also in the audience were the members of the Competition’s Jury, including António Saiote (ESMAE – Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espetáculo, Porto), Jonathan Luxton (Orquestra Gulbenkian and Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa), Miquel Bernat (Drumming, ESMAE and ESMUC, Barcelona), Luís Magalhães (Stellenbosch University, South Africa) and Vicente Chuaqui (Conservatório de Música do Porto).

On stage were the representatives of the participants groups with players mostly coming from Portugal, Spain, Northern Ireland, Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Brazil e South Korea, accounting 17 ensembles in the competition and having the presence of close to 50 musicians, divided between the two categories (Junior and Senior).
